China to accelerate construction of solar projects in Gobi Desert

China has vowed to speed up the construction of massive photovoltaic (PV) power projects in the Gobi Desert and other arid lands, according to a notice (支持光伏发电产业发展规范用地管理有关工作的通知) jointly issued by Ministry of Natural Resources, National Forestry and Grassland Administration and National Energy Administration.

The notice encourages the use of unused land and construction land in stock for the PV power generation industry. China is accelerating the planning and construction of large-scale renewable energy complexes in the desert. It launched the first phase comprising 100 gigawatts (GW) total wind and solar power capacity in late 2021, which covers 19 provinces. The second phase began in the second half of 2022, with a total installed capacity of about 455 GW. And the third phase is in the pipeline.

China chalks up fresh win for yuan internationalization with LNG trade

China completed its first yuan-settled import of liquefied natural gas (LNG). State-owned China National Offshore Oil bought the LNG from France’s TotalEnergies on March 28. The transaction involved more than 60,000 tons of the fuel that originated from the United Arab Emirates and was completed on the Shanghai Petroleum and Natural Gas Exchange (SHPGX).
