Aug. 22 marked the 120th anniversary of the birth of Deng Xiaoping, the chief architect of China’s reform and opening-up. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held a grand symposium in his honor, with an important address delivered by President Xi Jinping. Various regions and departments commemorated this towering figure of the century through articles and events. Deng’s extensive political legacy includes the assertion that “development is the absolute principle,” which encapsulates courage, wisdom, and foresight — a tenet particularly worth revisiting today. High-quality development is indeed the immutable principle of the new era. Xi Jinping, in his symposium speech, emphasized that focusing on high-quality development as the primary task is crucial to fully, accurately, and comprehensively implementing the new development concepts.
